I quickly ran out the other night to this abandoned schoolhouse when all the conditions happened to be just right! My friend and I hopped out of the car, and without even letting our eyes adjust, the Milky Way was glowing! It was a bit windy, but that helped keep the bugs off, and us photographers were cool and happy.

On my very first landscape photography trip, I went to the Grand Canyon. When I arrived, a snow storm blocked any view I might have had. Luckily, the next morning I was able to get this beautiful shot that has aged very well as my work continues to grow.

I made this image on my very first trip to Antelope Canyon. I didn’t really know what to expect but I was jittery on the bumpy ride down to the opening of the canyon. If you have ever been to Antelope canyon you know it’s a very busy place. Tours running in and out and people everywhere. Luckily the canyon is beautiful and worth every second. If you get the chance to experience the canyon in a moment of silence it’s quite magical and has had a profound lasting effect on me. While waiting for a group to pass, I took this shot of the canyon swirling above our heads.

My first morning in Death Valley was at Badwater Basin. After about a mile walk out onto the salt flat, you are surrounded in a sea of white salt crystals. Deceivingly familiar, at first it looks like a frozen lake. In the cold wind, it sure felt like it too. As the sun started to rise behind the mountains, the scene began to glow a soft blue. These beautiful tones sweep across the basin in the predawn light, preparing it for sunrise.

Twisted-
After a long day in the fiery hot sun, the cool twilight air is a welcomed relief. For a few minutes the clouds are magically illuminated a glowing pink against a deep blue sky. Night is coming, but the sun is putting on a show as it fights the moon for a few extra moments to shine.

Colorado Ad Astra-
I have always dreamt of touching the stars. For me, astrophotography is my way of expanding beyond this earth. It can make us feel small, or we can relish our own part of the universe. We get to be a part of something so much larger than most of us can ever comprehend. It’s amazing to me that every night the universe is on display, and most of us sleep through the show.
Ad Astra is Latin for “to the stars”.

Colorado Colors-
After a day of shooting some really amazing fall colors, I head out to the spot I want to shoot for sunset. When I arrive, it’s crawling with other photographers. As I set up, I’m kind of feeling meh about the scene. It’s beautiful for sure, but I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be happy with it later. I call my sister over, and we jump back in the rig. I find a spot down the road that I like better, and no one is around! We setup; I shoot a few shots off; and then we wait. It’s been partly cloudy all day, and I’m excited for some bright pink clouds. This is one of those times I’m glad I followed my gut and moved spots!

In the early hours of the morning long before the sun came up, I had the colosseum to myself. The quiet solitude was in vast contrast from the busy days and the crowded history of this very historic location. The stones beneath my feet, rounded from so many who have come before me, start to glow as the sun rises, and the colosseum comes to life once more.

Delicate Arch is one of the most beautiful natural rock arches in Arches National Park. Standing tall into the heavens, the core of our galaxy passes through the center of the arch. After waiting out some rain and clouds, I was able to capture this moment.

I started my hike to Dream Lake in total darkness. While the stars traveled across the sky and the sun began to rise, I was shooting constantly. I had never made a star trail image before, so naturally, I was working out some of the issues in real time. I feel very blessed that this image came together so well. Fall Frenzy-
It’s that time of year again when the trees show off in a wonderful display of color and drama. Sunlight beams down warm rays, and the north wind blows cold turning green trees into pops of vibrant color. When walking through the forest, you can’t help but look up and feel the excitement!
