Colorado Ad Astra-
I have always dreamt of touching the stars. For me, astrophotography is my way of expanding beyond this earth. It can make us feel small, or we can relish our own part of the universe. We get to be a part of something so much larger than most of us can ever comprehend. It’s amazing to me that every night the universe is on display, and most of us sleep through the show.
Ad Astra is Latin for “to the stars”.

Colorado Colors-
After a day of shooting some really amazing fall colors, I head out to the spot I want to shoot for sunset. When I arrive, it’s crawling with other photographers. As I set up, I’m kind of feeling meh about the scene. It’s beautiful for sure, but I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be happy with it later. I call my sister over, and we jump back in the rig. I find a spot down the road that I like better, and no one is around! We setup; I shoot a few shots off; and then we wait. It’s been partly cloudy all day, and I’m excited for some bright pink clouds. This is one of those times I’m glad I followed my gut and moved spots!

I started my hike to Dream Lake in total darkness. While the stars traveled across the sky and the sun began to rise, I was shooting constantly. I had never made a star trail image before, so naturally, I was working out some of the issues in real time. I feel very blessed that this image came together so well. I would really appreciate hearing what you think of this shot.

Fall Frenzy-
It’s that time of year again when the trees show off in a wonderful display of color and drama. Sunlight beams down warm rays, and the north wind blows cold turning green trees into pops of vibrant color. When walking through the forest, you can’t help but look up and feel the excitement!

Rock Aglow-
As sunset ignites the mountain side, fall colors are set aglow with the last rays of light from a beautiful day. A trickling stream can be heard nearby as the last wind of the day rustles the leaves. Fall is in the air with a cold chill, but no one is moving as the sun vanishes beyond the horizon.

As the sun comes up in Aspen, Colorado, I sit alone and watch the mountains begin to glow bright orange. The wind stills, and the lake becomes a mirror reflecting the beautiful sunrise. A few minutes later, I spot a moose making its way along the path, and I relinquish my spot to him.
